Proper Placement and Usage of Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers

1. Proper Placement of Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers

latest company news about Proper Placement and Usage of Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers 0

  • The placement of a temperature and humidity data logger is another important factor affecting measurement accuracy. For data loggers with built-in sensors, the sensor cannot always be placed in direct contact with the object being measured. Therefore, the placement of the device is particularly important for obtaining accurate data.
  • For temperature data loggers that use infrared temperature measurement, factors such as the size of the target, the emissivity of the material being measured, and the ambient light intensity around the target can also affect measurement accuracy.
  • Temperature and humidity data loggers with external sensors have probes that can be placed directly in contact with the object being measured, so this particular issue does not apply in the same way.

DLS technical engineers offer the following advice: “We have found that some logistics companies in China place temperature data loggers near the air outlets of refrigeration units in refrigerated trucks. This can result in significant differences between the recorded temperatures and the actual temperatures of the transported goods, affecting measurement accuracy. Therefore, we generally provide customers with relevant training after they purchase our products to help them use temperature and humidity data loggers correctly and effectively.”

2. How to Use Temperature and Humidity Data Loggers Correctly

  • The correct use of a temperature and humidity data logger also has a direct impact on measurement accuracy.
  • In general, a temperature and humidity data logger does not immediately achieve its full measurement performance as soon as it starts operating. It needs a certain amount of time to exchange heat with the surrounding environment before it can accurately measure the ambient temperature.
  • Typically, a temperature data logger with an external sensor can reach T90 in approximately 5 minutes, while a data logger with a built-in sensor generally requires around 20 minutes to complete this process. T90 refers to the time required for the sensor to reach 90% of its final response to a change in temperature.

Therefore, users should place the data logger in the environment to be monitored in advance and set a countdown of approximately 5–20 minutes, depending on the actual conditions. This allows the data logger to start recording automatically at the appropriate time and helps ensure accurate temperature measurements.
